Adeboye Urges Women To Prioritise Financial Stability Of Suitors

The general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, has outlined key marital guidelines for young women, urging them to prioritise a suitor’s financial stability and character over outward displays of religiosity.

Speaking during the May edition of the Holy Ghost Service, Adeboye stressed the importance of spiritual discernment and practical considerations in choosing a life partner, noting that these should take precedence over physical attraction and social status.

“No matter how religious the brother may be, or how well he prays in tongues, ask him: ‘Have you a job?’” he said.

Referencing Genesis 2, the cleric explained that God gave Adam a job before giving him a wife, underscoring the importance of provision in marriage.

“Job first, wife later. If he has no job, how is he going to take care of the family? The Bible made it clear that any man who cannot provide for his own home is worse than an infidel,” he added.

Adeboye further advised women to verify claims of employment or business, warning against vague assertions.

“If he says I am a contractor, ask him to give you evidence of the contract he had executed before. Otherwise, you will be the contract,” he said.

He also cautioned against men who rely on flattery, citing Proverbs 29:5 as a warning against deceptive speech, and shared a lighthearted account of his past before becoming born again to illustrate how persuasive words can be misleading.

On spiritual values, the cleric urged women to be firm about holiness, warning that any man who struggles with basic moral principles should not be considered.

“If he does not believe in holiness, run,” Adeboye said, adding that a man who claims to be a child of God but disregards commandments such as “Thou shalt not commit adultery” should be avoided.

Meanwhile, the cleric had earlier addressed men during the same service, warning them against being swayed solely by physical appearance and urging them to consider character and domestic values when choosing a spouse.

Adeboye also reportedly told church workers that Nigeria’s next president ahead of the 2027 general elections has already been determined by God, maintaining that the outcome will ultimately be shaped by divine will rather than human influence.
