Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has condemned the killing of a school teacher abducted by bandits in Oyo State, while questioning the worsening security situation in the country and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Reacting in a post shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Adeyanju described the incident as shocking, noting that it occurred in Oyo State, which he said is geographically close to Lagos.

“Terrorists have beheaded a school teacher in Oyo State with many other victims still in their custody. Oyo State, not Borno State! Oyo is just one hour from Lagos,” he wrote.

“On what basis is Tinubu seeking re-election? Is it so that the insecurity can continue and spread all over Naija?” Adeyanju asked.

His comments came in reaction to the killing of Michael Oyedokun, one of the teachers abducted from Community High School in the Ahoro-Esinele community of Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The teacher was reportedly killed by his abductors in a disturbing video that surfaced online on Monday, while several other victims remain in captivity.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents and civil society groups, with renewed calls for urgent government intervention to secure the release of the remaining abductees and address rising insecurity.

The Special Adviser on Media to Oyo State governor, Suleimon Olanrewaju, confirmed the killing and said Governor Seyi Makinde had expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.

He added that the state government was deploying both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to rescue the remaining victims.

Olanrewaju also disclosed that security personnel injured during rescue operations were receiving treatment, adding that the government would cover their medical expenses.
