The Certified Pension Institute of Nigeria (CPIN) has urged operators and stakeholders in the pension sector, among whom 11 fellows and seven associates were recently inducted into the Institute, to adhere to professional ethics in the discharge of their duties.
At the Investiture Ceremony for both Fellows and Associates of the Institute in Ikeja, Lagos, recently, the President/Chairman of the Council of CPIN, Umaru Kwairanga, stated that the pursuit of the institute membership was scholastic and scientific, noting that members would continue to utilise their professional competence and capacity to enhance pension growth.
He noted that the institute’s fellows and associates are distinguished and accomplished individuals in pension practice and associated financial services in Nigeria, while imploring the inductees to be good ambassadors of the Institute in their various organisations by their conduct, professional utterances, and interest in the body.
Kwairanga submitted that the council is working assiduously to attain a Chartered status for the institute.
Its executive secretary, Dr Samson Akinyemi, noted that attaining fellowship is the highest level of membership of the institute, noting that, to become a fellow, the candidate must have satisfied the Council that he/she has possessed the associate certificate of the institute for not less than seven years immediately preceding the date of application.
According to him, “The individual must be a holder of an approved academic qualification and have creditably held a senior management position in a pension management company or related company or a senior lecturer in a higher educational institution for a period of not less than seven years.”
Dr Akinyemi maintained that to become an associate of the institute, the candidate must have been employed in a pension management or related field, have passed the prescribed examination of the institute and be a fit and proper person to be enrolled in the register.
The inducted fellows are: Dr Mustapha Mohammed; Kari Abubakar; Abdulrahman Sambo; Olufemi Awodimibola; Maryam Mohammed; Aminu Safana; Oluwakemi Aroyehun; Zainab Abdullahi; Quadri Lukman; Ramatu Nasir; and Akinola Akinyemi.
The associates are: Esejindu Tochukwu; Kuje Umbugadu; Aliyu Bilikisu; Bright Aiyanyor; Abdullahim Shehu; Yahuza Ibrahim and Ndubuisi Ogba.
Earlier, a Pension Consultant and former Director-General of the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), Folashade Onanuga, charged the pension industry regulator and operators to review the regulations to make them more attractive for employers, especially the State government, to join and contribute actively as and when due.
