Administration, Broadcast Station, Deny Salary Debt Allegations Against Wike

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the management of the Abuja Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) have debunked an online report alleging that the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, owes salaries to staff of the corporation and has neglected the broadcasters.

This was made known on Monday in a press statement, signed by the acting managing director of ABC, Mr Ajibola Akinwumi, in response to the publication by the online media, which the administration described as incorrect, unfair, and subjective.

The statement titled, “FCT Minister, Barr. Wike Cares To Uplift Asoradio/Television,” sought to categorically set the record straight, insisting that the allegations are a calculated and desperate attempt to paint the minister in a bad light.

Contrary to the claims of unpaid wages, the FCTA asserted that it has fully settled the salaries of all pensionable staff at ABC up to the current month, October 2025.

“The honourable minister has graciously approved the regularisation of the organisation’s AD-HOC staff which confers them with a pensionable status in the organisation,” the statement reads.

“This move is positioned as a significant step towards improving staff welfare and institutional stability, directly countering the narrative of neglect.”

The management criticised the online media for the methods employed by the online publication, accusing it of a severe ethical breach.

“What is more worrisome is the fact that your Reports ignored all known ethics of Journalism especially the rules of fairness and balanced reporting,” Akinwumi stated.

He expressed dismay that his name was mentioned in the report without any prior attempt to contact him for his perspective.

“That particular Contents in your platform relating to ABC are nothing short of an ethical breach to say the least,” he added.

The statement further emphasised that while Aso Radio/Television upholds the role of investigative journalism, such work must be balanced with the constitutional rights to a fair hearing and privacy. It described the Sahara Reporters’ story as “baseless” and “faulty.”

The administration sought to redirect the narrative towards the minister’s broader achievements, noting that Abuja residents have continued to praise the minister for his commitment to infrastructure development, describing him as a focused, transformative leader who keeps promises.
