We strongly condemn and reject the ongoing attempt to forcibly take over the properties of the late Sir Lucky Omoluwa, Chairman of Pinnacle Communication Nigeria Limited, through what appears to be a coordinated abuse of police power and a blatant disregard for the rule of law.
On Friday, 16th January 2026, at about 6:00–6:30pm, and again on Saturday, 17th January 2026, officers attached to the IGP Monitoring Team, allegedly acting on the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, invaded No. 4 Charles de Gaulle Street, Asokoro, Abuja, the office premises of Pinnacle Communication Nigeria Limited, in a bid to enforce a disputed court order.
This action is not only provocative but illegal and reckless, as an appeal has already been filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, the matter is scheduled for hearing on 28th January 2026, and there is a pending application for stay of execution. Yet, despite this clear legal position, armed police officers attempted to force their way into the property—first under the cover of darkness and later in broad daylight.
We state categorically that Nigeria is not a lawless jungle. Court processes must be respected. Appeals and pending stays of execution are not suggestions; they are binding legal safeguards.
Even more disturbing is the alleged collaboration between elements of the Nigeria Police Force and Mr. Dipo Onifade, a former Company Secretary of Pinnacle Communication Nigeria Limited. Mr. Onifade resigned following the death of Sir Lucky Omoluwa and was previously arrested and charged in Lagos for allegedly impersonating the company. After his release, he began laying claims to the company’s properties—claims he has failed to substantiate with any valid legal document.
We ask Nigerians and the world:
By what law does a former company secretary become the owner of a deceased man’s estate while the wife and children of the deceased are still alive?
If Mr. Onifade claims to be the beneficiary or next of kin, let him publicly present the document signed by Sir Lucky Omoluwa that confers such rights. Until then, these actions amount to attempted criminal dispossession.
The events of Friday night were particularly alarming. Police officers reportedly attempted to climb the fence of the property in the dark, an action only prevented by the lawful presence of Civil Defence officers and other police personnel guarding the premises, who warned against illegal entry. This alone raises serious questions about intent and procedure.
On Saturday, 17th January 2026, the attempt was repeated. This time, the officers were confronted by determined and peaceful civil society members led by Comrade Godwin Erheriene, under the platform of Global Gender Safety and Moral Development. Despite heavy police presence, access to the property was lawfully and peacefully resisted. These events are fully documented and on record.
We reject in totality the weaponization of state institutions to intimidate widows, children, and lawful stakeholders. This is not policing; this is institutional injustice.
We therefore demand the following:
1. Immediate withdrawal of all police operatives from the property of Pinnacle Communication Nigeria Limited.
2. Strict adherence to the rule of law, including respect for the pending appeal and stay of execution.
3. Independent investigation into the role of the IGP Monitoring Team and any officers involved in this attempted forceful takeover.
4. Immediate disengagement of the Nigeria Police Force from any private interest or individual seeking unlawful possession of the late Sir Lucky Omoluwa’s properties.
We are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to urgently intervene and call the Inspector General of Police. Sometimes in September last year the IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, issued a firm directive to all officers of the Nigeria Police Force, warning them to steer clear of land-related disputes and other civil matters. Today we don’t know why this is happening except if that statement is political.
We also call on civil society organizations, the Nigerian Bar Association, human rights groups, the media, and all well-meaning Nigerians to rise and speak out. Today it is the Omoluwa family; tomorrow it could be anyone.
Nigeria must not become a country where power overrides law, and force replaces justice.
We will continue to resist injustice—peacefully, lawfully, and resolutely.
This press conference was written and signed by Comrade Godwin Erheriene the Executive Director of Global Gender Safety And Moral Development.
