Nigeria’s Super Eagles have asserted their dominance early in 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 clash against Mozambique on Monday night, with goals from Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen giving the team a comfortable 2-0 lead within the first 25 minutes.

The Super Eagles wasted no time in making their intentions clear. In the 20th minute, Ademola Lookman broke the deadlock with a superb right-footed shot from the centre of the box, finding the top right corner of the net after being assisted by Akor Adams. The goal sent the Nigerian fans into a frenzy and set the tone for the match.

Just five minutes later, the prolific Victor Osimhen doubled Nigeria’s advantage. From very close range, Osimhen clinically finished with his right foot, slotting the ball into the bottom right corner, once again assisted by Akor Adams.

Mozambique has struggled to contain Nigeria’s attacking prowess, with the Super Eagles creating numerous chances. Nigeria had several early corners and attempts blocked, including shots from Osimhen and Lookman, before eventually finding the back of the net. Mozambique’s Ernan Siluane was called into action early, saving an Alex Iwobi shot in the 6th minute.

The Mambas have had brief moments, winning a couple of free kicks, but have largely been on the back foot. A delay in play due to an injury to Mozambique’s Ernan Siluane briefly interrupted the flow, but Nigeria quickly regained momentum.

With a two-goal cushion and only 31 minutes played, Nigeria looks firmly in control as they aim to secure their spot in the AFCON quarter-finals.
