The African Continental Governor of the World Sustainable Development Goals Organization, H.E. Alhaji Yahya Muhammad Guregi, has congratulated former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on his historic appointment as the United Nations Global Crisis Envoy.
Jonathan becomes the first African head of state to hold the position, which is backed by an unprecedented coalition of the United States, France, the United Kingdom, China, Russia, and the United Nations.
The role mirrors the high-profile diplomatic position once held by former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who served as Middle East envoy for the UN, EU, US, and Russia.
H.E. Guregi described the appointment as a milestone for Africa’s place in global diplomacy and a testament to Jonathan’s leadership.
He praised Jonathan’s political journey, from university lecturer to Commissioner, Deputy Governor, Governor, Vice President, Acting President, and eventually Nigeria’s President.
“This appointment is a testament to Goodluck Jonathan’s exceptional leadership and vision,” Guregi said. “As the UN Global Crisis Envoy, he will bring a unique perspective to address pressing global challenges.”
Guregi expressed confidence in Jonathan’s ability to bridge divides, promote peace, and advance sustainable solutions for global crises.
On behalf of the World Sustainable Development Goals Organization and the African Continental body, Guregi wished Jonathan “immense success” in his new role.
