Former minister for defence Gen. T.Y. Danjuma, has again urged the people of Taraba State to step up self-defence against killers.
He spoke in Takum, headquarters of Takum local government area on Friday night at an event organised to appreciate his workers in the area.
Danjuma’s advice followed widespread killings by suspected herders in Benue, Plateau and other states across Nigeria.
The former defence chief had in the past urged the people to rise and defend themselves.
Addressing the people in Takum on Friday, he said the killings which provoked him to make the call years ago had not reduced but had rather become worse.
He added that unless the people were prepared to defend themselves against, nobody seems ready to save their lives from anywhere.
“I once ask you to rise and defend yourselves, I am still repeating it today with more seriousness, rise and defend yourselves, the killers have obtained sophisticated arms, we don’t know where they got the arms, you people should also seek to get it wherever they got the arms, you must defend yourselves against the killers.
“You should know they are well armed to kill you and take over your land, be ready for them as they also humans like you,” Danjuma stated.
