In preparation to avert disaster, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has intensified efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and community resilience across vulnerable communities in Adamawa State.
The North East team of the National Preparedness and Response Campaign (NPRC), led by the zonal director, Mr Suleiman Yakubu, carried out extensive sensitisation and community engagement activities in selected communities within Yola South and Yola North local government areas.
Communities visited in Yola South included Makama, Mbamba, Angwan Tarbo and Shagari, while Gbonronji and Rimawa communities in Yola North also benefited from the exercise.
The campaign focused on raising public awareness on disaster preparedness, promoting early warning systems and educating residents on measures to reduce risks associated with emergencies and natural disasters, particularly flooding and related hazards.
Speaking during the engagement, the NEMA team emphasised the importance of community participation in disaster risk reduction and encouraged residents to remain vigilant and responsive to early warning information issued by relevant authorities.
The sensitisation exercise was conducted in collaboration with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMCs), and community leaders, whose active participation contributed significantly to the success of the campaign.
Stakeholders at the event reaffirmed their collective commitment to building safer, informed, and resilient communities capable of responding effectively to emergencies at the grassroots level.
The National Preparedness and Response Campaign is part of NEMA’s proactive strategy aimed at reducing the impact of disasters through awareness creation, preparedness, and coordinated emergency response mechanisms across the country.
