Fintiri Meets APC Aspirants Pushes For Consensus

The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, on May 12 and 13, held separate consultative meetings with aspirants seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) tickets for the House of Representatives and Senate ahead of the party primaries.

The meetings, held at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Yola, were aimed at promoting unity, internal cohesion and stability within the party.

Addressing the aspirants, Governor Fintiri described consensus as the most viable option for the APC, particularly in view of the prevailing security challenges in the region. He said a united party would be better positioned to focus on governance and peace rather than internal disputes.

The governor cautioned aspirants against engaging in personal attacks and abuse on social media, stressing the need to protect the image of the party. He also warned against anti-party activities, reminding party members that the collective interest of the APC should take precedence over individual ambitions.

Fintiri urged the aspirants to remain patient and trust in divine destiny, noting that “God is the ultimate giver of power.”

“I am a democrat at heart. That is why I have called you here as one family to discuss. While consensus remains the best path to avoid the stress and time constraints of a heated contest, if it fails, direct primaries will be conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner,” he said.

The meetings opened with remarks by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Auwal Tukur, who emphasised the importance of internal democracy and party unity.

Speaking on behalf of the aspirants, Barrister Aliyu Boya Wakili and Musa Musa Usman Terrang commended the governor for his consultative approach and inclusive leadership style. They described the meetings as a demonstration of dialogue and family-style consultation rather than imposition.

The aspirants are expected to return to their constituencies for further consultations on the governor’s proposal for consensus ahead of the APC primaries.
