Not less than 15,000 participants, including renowned scientists, have convened at the 25th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2024) to brainstorm on the latest advancements in HIV research and treatment.

Themed: “Putting People First,” the conference features various sessions, workshops, and discussions aimed at addressing the ongoing challenges in the global HIV response.

The executive director, Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), Winnie Byanyima, while giving her remarks at the conference said the path that ends AIDS was clear and proven, adding that, “We cannot turn away when every minute, someone dies from AIDS-related causes.”

AIDS2024 International Co-Chair, Sharon Lewin, added, “Progress happens when science, policy and activism come together”, while emphasising the need to work together to halt and reverse regressive laws and reductions in funding to enable the world to innovate and ensure that all people living with HIV have access to the quality care and treatment they need.

The International AIDS Conference is the premier global platform to advance the HIV response. As the world’s largest conference on HIV and AIDS, it sits uniquely at the intersection of science, advocacy and human rights, bringing together scientists, policy makers, healthcare professionals, people living with HIV, funders, media and communities.

Since its start in 1985, the conference has served as an opportunity to strengthen policies and programmes that ensure an evidence-based response to HIV and related epidemics.
