Airtel Africa Plc recorded a strong performance on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) last week, with its share price rising by 10 per cent to reinforce the growing strength of the telecommunications sector as a major driver of market activity and economic growth.

The telecommunications giant closed the week at N3,655.70 per share, up from N3,323.40, making it one of the standout performers on the local bourse and underscoring investor confidence in the company’s long-term growth prospects.

Market analysts attributed the rally to Airtel Africa’s strong business fundamentals, diversified revenue base and strategic positioning across key African markets, factors that continue to make the stock attractive to investors seeking stability amid prevailing economic uncertainties.

According to analysts, Airtel Africa’s gains differ from those of several other advancing stocks, where price appreciation was largely driven by speculative trading activities.

They noted that the company’s growth reflects confidence in its operational performance, earnings potential and critical role in Africa’s rapidly expanding digital economy.

“Airtel Africa remains a preferred choice for investors seeking high-quality stocks with sustainable value creation prospects. Its performance is underpinned by strong operational fundamentals rather than short-term market speculation,” analysts said.

Market observers also highlighted the company’s extensive geographic footprint and foreign currency-linked revenue streams as key strengths that continue to support its resilience and appeal to investors.

They described Airtel Africa as a stabilising force on the NGX, citing its robust earnings profile and strategic importance within the telecommunications industry.

The company said its strong market performance further underscores the crucial role telecommunications firms play in advancing economic development and driving digital transformation across the continent.

Airtel Africa reiterated its commitment to expanding network coverage, enhancing digital services, strengthening enterprise solutions and promoting financial inclusion initiatives aimed at connecting more people and unlocking economic opportunities.

The company noted that it continues to invest heavily in digital infrastructure, mobile financial services and innovative technology solutions designed to support businesses, governments and communities across Africa.

According to the company, these investments are becoming increasingly important as demand for reliable connectivity, digital services and technology-driven solutions continues to grow across the continent.

Industry stakeholders said the telecommunications sector remains a critical enabler of economic activity, supporting commerce, financial inclusion and digital innovation.

They added that Airtel Africa’s strong share price performance reflects both the company’s market leadership and the increasing importance of telecom operators in shaping Africa’s digital future.

With investor interest in fundamentally strong stocks rising, Airtel Africa’s double-digit gain highlights the sector’s resilience and reinforces its position as one of the strongest pillars of growth within the Nigerian capital market.
