Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, have sympathised with the family, students and followers of the late grand leader of the Tijjaniya Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, following his passing.
During a condolence visit to Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s Mosque, on Unguwar Jaki Street in Bauchi yesterday, the Senate president, represented by deputy Senate president, Barau Jibrin, described Sheikh Dahiru as a towering spiritual figure whose teachings have shaped millions of followers across the country.
He said the cleric’s demise marked “the end of an era of unmatched religious scholarship and moral guidance.”
Akpabio added that he admired the late Sheikh’s unwavering commitment to peace, unity, and nation-building, noting that his legacy would continue to guide future generations.
He further conveyed the Senate President’s assurance that the National Assembly would continue to support initiatives that promote religious harmony and strengthen the values Sheikh Dahiru championed throughout his lifetime.
On his part, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas said the death of Sheikh Dahiru was a national loss, describing him as a custodian of knowledge whose influence transcended regional and sectarian boundaries.
The Speaker noted that the late cleric played a pivotal role in promoting tolerance and understanding among various groups in Nigeria.
Abbas emphasised that the House of Representatives recognised the tremendous contributions Sheikh Dahiru made to the intellectual and spiritual growth of the nation.
He urged Sheikh Dahiru’s followers to uphold the virtues of humility, peace, and discipline that the late scholar embodied.
Also speaking, former Bauchi State governor, Mohammed Abubakar, SAN, said the state had lost one of its most respected voices of wisdom and guidance.
He praised Sheikh Dahiru for dedicating his life to scholarship and for shaping the moral compass of countless Nigerians.
Abubakar recalled his personal encounters with the late cleric, describing him as a gentle but firm leader whose words carried depth and inspiration.
He urged the family to take solace in the fact that Sheikh Dahiru lived a fulfilled life of service, devotion, and impact.
Responding, Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by his deputy, Auwal Jatau, said the Bauchi State Government deeply mourned the passing of a revered spiritual father.
He noted that Sheikh Dahiru’s teachings remained an integral part of the state’s cultural and religious fabric.
The governor commended the late Sheikh’s unwavering commitment to community development, stressing that his guidance helped maintain peace and harmony in Bauchi and beyond.
He assured the family and the Tijjaniya community that the state government would continue to honour Sheikh Dahiru’s memory by supporting programmes that strengthen unity and spiritual enlightenment.
