The Office of the President of the Senate has denied a viral video circulating online alleging that Senate President Godswill Akpabio made divisive remarks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the Senate President on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations, Jibril Tafida, the claim was described as false, malicious, and capable of inciting unnecessary tension in the country.

The viral video alleged that Akpabio said Northerners must vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 or risk expulsion from Nigeria—a claim the Senate President’s office firmly rejected.

“We wish to state clearly and unequivocally that the President of the Senate never made such a statement. This claim is completely false, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and create unnecessary tension,” the statement said.

The Office of the Senate President called on security agencies to investigate and arrest Garus Gololo, the individual featured in the video, and to compel him to substantiate his allegations.

“We therefore call on the security agencies in Nigeria to arrest Garus Gololo immediately and compel him to provide evidence of where and when the President of the Senate made such a statement,” it added.

The statement also condemned what it described as the use of “gutter language” against the Senate President, warning that such conduct undermines respect for public office and democratic institutions.

It accused Gololo of repeatedly making derogatory comments against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that his actions were politically motivated.

“Garus Gololo has developed a pattern of insulting President Bola Tinubu and the APC in order to satisfy his paymasters in the name of opposition politics. This must stop,” the statement said.

The Senate President’s office urged Nigerians, particularly in the northern region, to disregard the allegation and avoid actions capable of fueling division or misinformation in the country.
