The Akwa Ibom State Government has directed owners of night clubs and brothels in hotels and other private locations in the highbrow Ewet Housing Estate (EHE), Uyo to shut down their operations.

LEADERSHIP learnt that the government’s action became necessary in view of rampant cases of noise pollution and social nuisances including prostitution.

Consequently, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Akwa Ibom Ibom Property and Investments Company (APICO), Barr. Patrick Udomfang has given operators of such businesses seven days within which to cease operations or face sanctions.

“To all operators of night clubs in hotels and private properties, this directive is hereby given that such business is strictly prohibited.

“Night Clubs generate excessive noise, disturbing the peace and quietness of the area. Operations of Night Clubs have promoted anti-social behaviours, compromising the environment’s integrity and breach the conditions of allocation.
