The administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel, has zero tolerance for insecurity in the state, and will not relent in partnering relevant security agencies, including the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in sustaining the prevailing peace.
The head of civil service (HoS), Elder Effiong Essien, when he received a delegation of the NIS officials of the Akwa Ibom State Command, led by the comptroller Francisca Dakat, on courtesy call at Government House, Uyo, the state capital.
Essien, commended the robust public relations strategy employed by the command, and “for working tirelessly to ensure effective security coverage of the state’s vast coastline especially, on immigration issues.”
He assured his continued collaboration with the Command for the enlightenment of public servants on the processes and importance of owning International passport.
However, Dakat commended the HoS, for the audience, explaining that “the visit is part of familiarisation tour to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), “to further strengthen the already existing relationship between the Nigeria Immigration Service and Akwa Ibom state government.”
She said “the NIS is responsible for the control of the persons entering or leaving Nigeria, issuance of travel documents, permits to foreigners in Nigeria, border surveillance and patrol to ensure enforcement of immigration laws and regulations.”
She noted that the state has the largest coast line, and expressed the Command’s readiness to “monitor, track, apprehend, deport and repatriate illegal immigrants in order to promote the security of the states and country.”
The comptroller informed of plans to train people in the rural areas in various skills to meaningfully engage them to reduce criminality.
