The Akwa Ibom State Government has revoked all land allocations made since Governor Umo Eno assumed office in May 2023, citing plans to revalidate allocations and migrate to a new digital land management system.

In a public notice issued on Monday, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom (SAN), announced that the revocation affects both private and government-acquired lands.

“Notice is hereby given of the revocation of all land allocations in Akwa Ibom State made from the 29th day of May, 2023, till date, inclusive of all government-acquired land, for the purpose of revalidating allocations and interests and for migrating to the digital Akwa-GIS platform,” the notice stated.

The Attorney-General added that the Directorate of Lands would be shut during the transition period, while all fresh allocations and transactions involving government land would be suspended for one month.

“Over this period of transition, all fresh allocations of government land and transactions on government land stand suspended for a period of one month, during which period the Directorate of Lands shall be shut,” he said.

According to him, the revalidation exercise will last two months and will be supervised by the Geographic Information System (GIS) office at the Ministry of Lands and Town Planning. He warned that any allocation or interest not revalidated within the window would be rendered null and void.

“The revalidation process shall be for a period of two months and shall be carried out by the GIS office at the Ministry of Lands and Town Planning. Any land allocation, instrument, or interest not revalidated within this period shall be deemed invalid,” Udom declared.

The State government said the move was part of efforts to ensure transparency, accountability, and modernisation of land administration in the State.
