Al-Muhibbah Open University, Bauchi, has matriculated 365 students into its various academic programmes.

The ceremony was held at the Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre(ICC), Bauchi.

At the event, the vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Ibrahim Hassan, said of the total number of students admitted, 200 were sponsored by the Bauchi State government through the State Scholarship Board, while 50 students were sponsored by the wife of the Bauchi State governor and chancellor of the university, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, through her foundation.

Hassan described the ceremony as a major milestone for the institution, noting that it officially marked the students’ formal enrolment into the university’s approved academic programmes.

He revealed that the university currently offers 14 academic programmes, out of which 12 have received full accreditation, while the remaining programmes are at advanced stages of the accreditation process with relevant regulatory bodies.

According to him, Al-Muhibbah Open University is committed to delivering quality education through its open and distance learning model, which prioritises flexibility, accessibility and convenience for students regardless of their location.

“Our libraries, learning management system and subscribed academic databases are structured to support students’ academic success. We encourage our students to take full advantage of these facilities, engage actively with their lecturers and remain committed to their studies,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor urged the newly matriculated students to uphold academic integrity, discipline and excellence, stressing that education remains a vital tool for unlocking individual potential and driving national development.

He further explained that the university adopts a market-oriented teaching approach, adding that internship placements have already been secured for students in selected industries to ensure they graduate as self-reliant and economically productive individuals.

In her remarks, the chancellor of the university and First Lady of Bauchi State, Hajiya Aishatu Bala Mohammed, cautioned the students against all forms of indiscipline, warning that the institution would not tolerate behaviour that undermines academic and moral standards.

She charged the management and staff of the university to sustain high academic and ethical standards in line with global best practices, while commending regulatory agencies, particularly the National Universities Commission (NUC), for their continued support to the institution.

The matriculation ceremony was attended by parents, guardians, and other stakeholders, who praised the university and the Bauchi State Government for their sustained investment in education and efforts to expand access to tertiary education in the state.
