Al-Qadsiah Open Talks With Porto Over Nigerian Defender Sanusi

Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah have opened talks with FC Porto over a potential move for Nigeria international Zaidu Sanusi, with the defender entering the final year of his contract with the Portuguese champions.

Sanusi, 29, is reportedly yet to reach an agreement with Porto over a proposed two-year contract extension, with negotiations understood to have stalled over salary demands.

With no breakthrough in sight, Porto are believed to be considering selling the left-back this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires next year.

Al-Qadsiah officials have reportedly held preliminary discussions with Porto’s hierarchy in recent hours, with the Portuguese club placing a €10 million valuation on the Nigerian defender.

The Saudi Arabian side, who have been active in the transfer market, are now pushing to complete a deal for Sanusi ahead of the new season.

Sanusi joined Porto from fellow Portuguese club Santa Clara in August 2020 and has established himself as an important member of the squad.

During his time at the Estádio do Dragão, he has won eight domestic trophies, including Primeira Liga and Taça de Portugal titles.

The former Gil Vicente player has also attracted interest from elsewhere in Europe, with Italian Serie A club Atalanta and Premier League side Leeds United previously linked with a move for the versatile full-back.

However, Al-Qadsiah’s interest could provide Porto with an opportunity to resolve the contract situation while securing a substantial transfer fee for a player who could otherwise leave as a free agent next summer.
