England manager Thomas Tuchel has named an expanded 35-man squad for the upcoming international camp, describing it as the “last opportunity for players to compete for their ticket” to this summer’s World Cup.

The provisional squad includes two uncapped players: Everton midfielder James Garner and Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele. Recalls see Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo return, alongside AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori, who makes his first appearance since October 2023. Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is back after more than five years, and Dominic Solanke receives his first call-up since October 2024.

However, there is no place for Real Madrid full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, or Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins. Chelsea’s Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah are absent due to injury.

The Three Lions will continue their World Cup preparations with friendlies at Wembley Stadium against Uruguay on March 27th and Japan on March 31st.

“It’s our the last camp [before the World Cup]. The last opportunity to impress and the last opportunity for players to compete for their ticket,” Tuchel commented.

To “get the best out of this camp,” Tuchel confirmed a decision to split the squad, with 11 players joining after the Uruguay match. This group includes Dean Henderson, Dan Burn, Marc Guehi, Ezri Konsa, Nico O’Reilly, Elliot Anderson, Declan Rice, Morgan Rogers, Anthony Gordon, Harry Kane, and Bukayo Saka.

“These guys have played 3,500 minutes, some 4,000 minutes. More important than the pure number of minutes is some of these guys have played more minutes than the whole of last season,” Tuchel explained. “All of these players have contributed in September, October and November. They have credit with me. To give them a break mentally and physically, we will benefit from it.”

Teams must submit their final World Cup squads by Saturday, May 30th.
