The former governor of Kebbi State, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero, has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC) for Kebbi Central Senatorial District following the party’s primary election held on Monday in Birnin Kebbi.
Aliero, who currently represents the district in the Senate, was affirmed at the Haliru Abdu Stadium after other aspirants in the race stepped down following consultations with party leaders and stakeholders.
His emergence followed a consensus arrangement widely described by party leaders as a product of internal negotiations aimed at strengthening unity ahead of the general elections.
Speaking after his affirmation, Aliero described the outcome as a reflection of unity and political maturity within the APC in Kebbi State.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Nasir Idris, party executives, delegates and supporters for the confidence reposed in him.
“I appreciate the leadership of Governor Nasir Idris and the support of party members across the state. The peaceful outcome of this primary election has shown that APC in Kebbi is united and focused on victory,” Aliero said.
The senator pledged to continue prioritising education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment and infrastructure development if re-elected, noting that these sectors remain central to his legislative agenda.
Governor Idris, who attended the exercise, commended aspirants who withdrew from the contest in the interest of party unity, particularly Alhaji Kabiru Sani Giant, who stepped down for Aliero.
He also praised the reconciliation committee led by former Governor Sa’idu Usman Nasamu Dakingari for resolving disagreements among aspirants across the state’s senatorial districts.
The APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana Zuru, formally announced Aliero as the party’s consensus candidate, as supporters at the venue celebrated his emergence as flag bearer for Kebbi Central Senatorial District.
