The countdown to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games has entered its final stretch, with just 16 days remaining before nearly 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories converge on Scotland for one of the world’s premier multi-sport events.

Scheduled to run from 23 July to 2 August, the Games will feature competition across 10 sports and 215 medal events, as athletes chase Commonwealth glory in what promises to be a memorable edition of the quadrennial spectacle.

Glasgow will host the Games for a second time, having previously staged the event in 2014. Organisers have adopted a streamlined format for 2026, with competition taking place across four existing venues in a move designed to reduce costs, maximise sustainability and make greater use of established sporting infrastructure without compromising elite competition.

Nigeria will be among the nations aiming for a strong showing, alongside Commonwealth sporting heavyweights including Australia, England, Canada, India, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, Wales, Jamaica, Kenya, Malaysia, Singapore, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Trinidad and Tobago.

The 2026 Games will also mark the participation of Gabon and Togo, increasing the number of competing Commonwealth nations and territories to 74.
