Alleged Coup: DHQ Inaugurates Court Martial To Prosecute 30 Military Officers In Secret

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has commenced trial of more than 30 military officers accused of plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu-led government.

The trial commenced this Friday, April 24, 2026, behind closed-doors at the Scorpion Mess with journalists barred from covering the proceedings.

The defendants arrived the court at about 8:54 a.m. in Army Headquarters Garrison bus followed by a DIA detention operations vehicle.

Defence Headquarters had said military officers involved in the plot to overthrow President Tinubu will be formally arraigned before a military cour martial following their arrest in October, 2025, and conclusion of investigations.

LEADERSHIP reports that six other suspects, who are civilians and non-serving military officers, were on Wednesday arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja and thereafter remanded in DSS custody.
