The National President, Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti Alumni Association (FEDPAAA), Dr Oyedokun Abiodun, has said President Bola Tinubu will be remembered for restoring the dignity of technological education and creating a level playing field for all Nigerian graduates.
Dr. Abiodun who urged the president on the need to fully implement the degree-awarding status for polytechnics in the country, appreciated the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, for his renewed focus on the Polytechnic sector.
Stakeholders in the Polytechnic education subsector had been agitating for end to HND/BSc dichotomy and as well turning polytechnics to degree awarding institution for award of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech).
The Federal Government had last month, through the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, unveiled plans to end the long-standing HND dichotomy by granting polytechnics the authority to award degrees.
He spoke during the association’s pre-Annual General Meeting (AGM) held via zoom ahead of the alumni body’s third AGM, with the theme, ‘From Classrooms To circular economy: Advancing Human Capital Development Through Polytechnic and Alumni Synergy” holding in Asaba, Delta State on February 21.
According to him, “The news regarding the upgrading of polytechnics in Nigeria to degree-awarding institutions is a profound testament to the recognition of our sector as the bedrock of technological advancement.
“We look forward with great expectations to President Tinubu to fully implement the degree-awarding status for polytechnics.
“When the milestones of degree-awarding status and HND/BSc dichotomy are reached, history will be created and made by our amiable President”.
The outgoing FEDPAAA national president, added that the alumni had the great expectation that Tinubu is the visionary leader that God will use to permanently erase the Higher National Diploma/Bachelor degree dichotomy in Nigeria.
While charging members of the association to continue to live with love as their compass, always seeing one another as family and allowing love lead their deliberations and interactions.
“Our primary focus must remain the development of Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti and the welfare of our members. We must keep our colorful flag flying high. I urge you to mentor our current students, encouraging them to refrain from any actions that could diminish the hard-earned reputation of our great institution,” he said.
Dr Abiodun commended the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Temitope Alake and other members of the institutions management for their support which enabled his administration record landmark achievements in members’ welfare and development, infrastructures development, support to the institution and students and as well as other corporate social responsibilities.
He said, “To our members, chapters, and friends who have stepped forward with financial support for this upcoming AGM-your generosity is the fuel for our success. Together, we have built a robust and resilient alumni structure that will serve as a solid foundation for future administrations”.
Also speaking, the National Vice President and Chairman, National Organising Committee, FEDPAAA, Moses Bominuru, praised the president, exco members and the alumni for contributions that shaped the association’s growth.
Bominuru, who would be leaving office having served in the capacity for three AGMs, said, “The successes we have achieved are a testament to your dedication and teamwork. I’ll always be committed to our association’s progress. I’m excited for what’s next and look forward to a stronger relationship in the future.”
