The re-elected chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, has received tributes from his campaign team following a resounding victory in the just-concluded FCT Area Council election, with officials described the massive voter turnout as a resounding endorsement of purposeful leadership and continuity of progress.
At a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the secretary-general of the Campaign Council, Comrade Zakari Gambo Babale, announced that the overwhelming 40,295 votes recorded in the election represent far more than a simple electoral victory.
“This overwhelming mandate, secured by over 40,000 citizens, is not just a win for one political party but a triumph for every resident who believes in a better and more prosperous AMAC,” Babale said.
The campaign chief extended gratitude to electoral authorities and security agencies for their professionalism throughout the voting process.
“As a council, we must thank INEC for its commitment to the democratic process and our security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and orderly environment,” he said.
Babale revealed that the chairman-elect, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, and his vice chairman, Hon. Nadabo, remain deeply humbled by the unprecedented show of confidence from constituents.
The Campaign Council reserved special praise for media practitioners who covered the electoral journey from its earliest stages.
“We appreciate members of the media for their objective and tireless coverage from the beginning of consultations to the final declaration of results.
“To our dedicated party agents, stakeholders, fellow members of the Campaign Council and our supporters, your sleepless nights and unwavering loyalty have yielded this glorious victory,” he said.
The council also acknowledged the critical role of traditional and religious institutions in maintaining electoral peace, honouring traditional rulers and religious leaders for their prayers, wise counsel, and efforts to maintain peace throughout the election period.
Babale extended special recognition to the informal sector and diverse communities that form the fabric of AMAC.
“We commend market women, artisans, transporters and the entire hospitality community, including traders and business groups from across Nigeria who call AMAC home.
“Your belief in our vision for a thriving local economy is the fuel that will drive our next phase of development,” he said.
The campaign chief particularly praised the demographic groups that powered the movement, describing youths, women, and student unions as its driving force, with their energy and advocacy serving as its heartbeat.
According to Babale, the electoral victory reflects popular confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and acknowledges the FCT administration’s contributions.
He commended the minister of the FCT and the minister of State for their leadership in transforming the nation’s capital, providing a foundation upon which the council intends to build.
Looking ahead, Babale assured constituents that their voices have been heard and will shape the administration’s priorities.
“Through this victory, we reaffirm our commitment to bringing greater government presence into communities through enhanced security, improved infrastructure, better healthcare, quality education and sustainable empowerment programmes,” he added.
