Former minister of transportation and ex-governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has formally joined the 2027 presidential race after obtaining the presidential nomination and expression of interest form of the African Democratic Congress.

Amaechi’s nomination form was picked up yesterday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja by a delegation led by former Edo State governor, John Odigie-Oyegun, who currently chairs the ADC Policy and Manifesto Committee.

Other members of the delegation included Senator Abatemi-Usman and other party stakeholders.

Amaechi’s entry into the contest comes amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with consultations and alignments continuing across political parties and blocs.

Party sources said some stakeholders within the ADC, particularly from the South-South geopolitical zone, have expressed support for Amaechi’s aspiration.

With the development, Amaechi becomes one of the leading aspirants to obtain the ADC presidential nomination form, reportedly valued at N90 million.

Earlier, businessman and economist, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, also obtained the party’s presidential form, declaring his intention to contest under the ADC platform.

Amaechi, a former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, served two terms as governor of Rivers State before joining the federal cabinet as Minister of Transportation under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Over the years, the former minister has spoken on issues including power rotation, youth participation in governance, insecurity, economic challenges and infrastructure development.

Associates of the former governor said he considers his experience in state and federal government relevant to addressing the country’s socio-economic and security concerns.
