Production on Amazon’s upcoming God of War television series has run into a major setback following a severe injury to the lead actor, Ryan Hurst.
Hurst, who was cast to play the iconic character Kratos in the live-action video game adaptation, reportedly tore his bicep during a stunt sequence. The injury requires surgery and a long recovery period.
Due to the lengthy rehabilitation timeline, Amazon Studios has decided to replace Hurst in the lead role rather than delay the entire project. Filming for the series, which is currently taking place in Vancouver, had previously been paused immediately after the accident.
The series also features Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor and Mandy Patinkin as Odin. Amazon Studios has not yet announced who will replace Hurst to take over the role of Kratos.
