Singer-songwriter, Amma Abena, ended the month of August, 2022 with the release of her 4 track debut EP ‘It’s Okay Not To Be Okay’ into the hearts and souls of people.

Like the title suggests, the EP goes on to explore the chaotic but transforming emotions that every human experiences. The simplicity of this body of work ranges a number of genres – Afro Soul, Afro house and alternative

Off the first track, ‘Our Best’, encourages everyone to take life slowly, enjoying every moment even in it’s toughest of periods. Borrowing from her lyrics, she says “Water no fit tun up, e go run down. Whether you like or not the sun must come down”

The second track, ‘We’re Not Okay’, goes against the refusal & fear of speaking up on the painful things life puts one through. Hence, inspiring people to be true to their feelings.

‘Dance By Yourself’, the third track with the EPs debut music video, brings a beautiful soulfulness to a fast paced world. A song that continually screams the importance of everyone learning to love themselves.

Albeit, a beginner in French, for the final track ‘Au revoir’ Amma Abena thrills us to a comic blend of French, Pidgin and English lyrics on a soulful acoustic beat.

If there’s something that’s certain with this EP is that it encourages, gives hope, lends a voice to our emotions and makes us laugh our hearts out.
