Four kidney transplants have been completed at the Afe Babalola Multi-System Hospital (AMSH) in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The chief medical director of the tertiary hospital, Dr Kolawole Ogundipe, said the health institution was poised to do more alongside its new partners, Marengo Asia Healthcare, India.
Addressing newsmen at the hospital complex yesterday in Ado Ekiti, Ogundipe said that apart from the kidney transplant, the hospital has grown from offering 10 dialysis sessions per month to over 400 sessions monthly.
The CMD who introduced the hospital’s new kidney transplant programme and partnership to journalists said, “we are proud to announce the expansion of our kidney transplant programme through a new partnership with Marengo Asia Healthcare Limited, a leading healthcare provider in India.
“These surgeries represent a monumental step forward, allowing the hospital to offer life-saving care and specialised treatment without the need for patients to seek care abroad.
“The visiting urologist and kidney transplant surgeon, Dr Rajeev Sood, from the Marengo Hospital, were accompanied on the trip by Dr Ajit Kumar and Mr Rishi Ojha.
“AMSH will expand its services under the partnership to include: Endourology services to introduce minimally invasive options for managing complex urological conditions, Penile Implants for Erectile Dysfunction offering new solutions to improve quality of life, and Laparoscopic and Advanced Surgical Procedures, providing cutting-edge, minimally invasive surgeries for a wide range of conditions.”
Ogundipe said the transplant additions would strengthen AMSH’s role as a leading healthcare provider in the region, bringing advanced medical care and expertise closer to the people of Nigeria.
“While AMSH is looking further to the partnership, with another visit from Marengo Hospital scheduled for the second week of January 2025, the hospital is excited about the potential for further collaboration and service expansion, making AMSH a leader in specialized medical care,” he said.
