‘An Iroko Has fallen’, Makinde Mourns Adebanjo

Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has likened the death of leader of pan-Yoruba sociopolitical organisation, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo to the fall of a mighty Iroko tree in the forest.

Makinde who described Pa Adebanjo’s death as the end of an era, commended him for being a great nationalist, federalist, patriot and true democrat, who gave his all for Nigeria to be a better country.

Describing Adebanjo as a father of all, Governor Makinde expressed his condolences to the immediate family of the late Afenifere leader, the Afenifere, the Government and people of Ogun State and the entire South-West people.

Similarly, the Yoruba Youth Socio-Cultural Association (YYSA) also mourned the death of Pa Adebanjo.

The association’s national president, Olalekan Hammed noted that Pa Adebanjo was a pro-democracy activist whose impact could never be forgotten.

 

“He was one of the longest lived Awoist who was blessed with longevity and he believed in equity and justice. He always stand for fairness, even when his opinions were not popular.

 

‘If not because of him, Afenifere group would have since ceased to exist”, he added.
