Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has submitted a budget of N758 billion to the state House of Assembly for approval as the state’s budget for the coming year, 2026.

According to the state Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake, while giving a breakdown of the budget yesterday in her office, the total proposed budget size is ₦757,884,487,705.

When compared to the current 2025 budget of ₦606,991,849,118, the 2026 budget represents a 24.1% increase.

While the expenditure is projected at ₦162.6 billion, representing 16.6%, the capital expenditure stands at ₦595.3 billion, a 26.3%.

Similarly, while the Capital Budget accounts for 79% of the total budget size, the recurrent expenditure represents 21%.

The budget deficit is estimated at ₦225.7 billion, representing 29.8% of the total budget size.

Mrs Nnake stated that, similar to the current state’s budget, the deficit is expected to be financed, if necessary, through hybrid financing options, including possible privatisation proceeds, a bump in IGR collections, and concessionary borrowing, primarily for bankable projects.

She, however, stated that the government had not borrowed to finance the current budget deficits and that, depending on the pace of execution in 2026, the government may still not need to borrow.
