The Muslim community in Anambra State has described the candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 presidential election, Mr Peter Obi, as the most transparent and detribalised Nigerian to lead the country.

The Chief Imam of Onitsha Central Mosque, Anambra State, Alhaji Abdulraman Iman, who spoke when Obi visited the Muslim Community at Onitsha Central Mosque to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-fitri with them, said they (Muslims) were still praying for him (Obi) in connection with his new Nigeria project.

“We are praying for you (Peter Obi) here (in Onitsha Central Mosque) for God to deliver you and your project for a new Nigeria. You are the most transparent and detribalised Nigerian to lead Nigeria.

“When you were governor for eight years, you showed us love, you rebuilt this Central Mosque which was destroyed during Chris Ngige administration before your government. And you have continued to show us love since you left office, you have come today to celebrate Sallah with us. We love you, His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi,” Alhaji Abdulraman Iman said.

The secretary of Arewa community in the state, Mahmud Iman, a lawyer said they reached out to their leaders in the northern part of the country that all the allegations made against Obi that he maltreated northerners, and indeed the Muslim faithful in the state when he was governor, were “lies.”

He stated that in addition to rebuilding their Central Mosque, Obi also assisted about 150 Muslims to travel to Mecca to perform hajj.

He rather described Obi as capable of creating a new Nigeria stating that apart from showing love to Muslim faithful in the state, Obi had been touching lives and contributing to the improvement of the well-being of people in many states in the North.

“We believe that you will win back your mandate(presidency) in the Court because we know that the people voted for you everywhere in this country.

“As you see us here, some of us are from different states in the North, some of us are from Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Bauchi, Kano, and, other parts of the North. And our people are telling us how you are helping them in our states.

“During the campaign they said that you are just a social media presidential candidate but you have shown them that you are the popular choice of the people of this country just within a few months”, Imam stated further.

Addressing the Muslim faithful, Obi told them that his purpose of visiting them is to celebrate Sallah with them.

In response to their plea for his assistance towards the renovation of the mosque, Obi assured them he would not only assist in the project, he would intervene in education and health services in the area.
