The Anambra State Government has shut down the New Motorcycle Spare Parts Market in Nnewi following an inspection exercise carried out across the market on Monday, February 23, 2026.
The market is expected to be reopened on Monday, March 2, 2026.
According to reports, the action was taken after several shops in the government-owned market were found closed in violation of a directive by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo mandating traders to open their businesses every Monday and disregard the illegal sit-at-home order of the proscribed IPOB.
As seen on a video circulating on social media, a representative of the state government, who addressed traders during the inspection, said the closure became necessary due to what he described as non-compliance and sabotage of government efforts.
“This is a government-owned market, you must open the market. If you don’t open the market, you’re sabotaging the efforts of the state government. For this sabotage that you people have exhibited today, it seems like some of you still want to, you don’t want the government to move forward, this market will remain closed from today till next week Monday.
“Then if your people are still playing or whatever you want to do, you can continue and go and have that holidays, till next week Monday,” He said.
The enforcement exercise was part of ongoing efforts by the state government to ensure compliance with its economic and market policies aimed at boosting commercial activities across the state.
Traders are expected to fully comply with the directive ahead of the scheduled reopening next week.
