Another Arrested Okuama Community Leader Dies

Another Okuama leader, the Community Treasurer and one of those arrested by the military, 81-year-old Dennis Okugbaye, allegedly died in detention on Tuesday afternoon.

This is exactly six days after the death of Okuama community president general, Ughelli South local government area of Delta state, Pa James Oghoroko, in Nigerian military detention.

Pastor Akpos Okugbaye, son of the deceased, broke the news of his father’s death amidst tears after he said the children made frantic efforts for his release before the sudden demise.

It was gathered that Okugbaye had taken ill and could not sit properly.

The Okuama leaders were arrested in August 2024 and have been kept by the military without trial.

The Late Okugbaye was arrested along with the late Oghoroko, Prof Arthur Ekpekpo, Chief Belvis Adogbo, Mrs Mabel Owhemu, and Mr Dennis Malaka between August 18 and 20, 2024, and has remained in unknown detentions since.

Okuama Community, after the death of 72-year-old Oghoroko, has raised the alarm.

It was gathered that the military was bringing Okugbaye from Port Harcourt, Rivers state, when he reportedly gave up the ghost, forcing them to return with the dead body.

The son, Dennis, said he was informed of his father’s death after several attempts to hear from them, but the number was switched off only to be notified of the father’s demise.
