Embattled Senator Samuel Anyanwu has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors of inviting chaos by recognising Hon Sunday Ude-Okoye as national secretary of the party.
Anyanwu stated this in a letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and copied to President of the Court of Appeal, Abuja; CJN, Supreme Court of Nigeria; the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the director of DSS.
According to the letter dated February 1, Anyanwu said the governor’s advice to the party leadership to implement the Enugu Court of Appeal judgement which favoured Ude-Okoye as the national secretary of PDP was faulty.
Anyanwu in the letter told the Police that grave dangers would ensue in the NWC’s attempt to implement the PDP governors’ advice.
The former Imo State governorship candidate who said the matter is before the Supreme Court, said he will vehemently resist any move to recognise Ude-Okoye, declaring that he still remains the national scribe of the party.
Recall that PDP Governors Forum after their meeting in Asaba, Delta State, last Friday advised the NWC to set up a machinery for the implementation of the Enugu Court of Appeal judgement which favoured the nomination of SKD Ude Okoye as the national secretary of the party.
The Appeal Court had sacked Anyanwu as national secretary; he has however gone to the Supreme Court to challenge the verdict claiming that he has secured a stay of execution on the matter, a position the national publicity secretary of PDP, Hon Debo Ologungaba, said does not exist.
However, Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye’s tussle for the national scribe position got to a head during last week’s Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting in Abuja where Anyanwu’s attempt to stop Ude-Okoye from attending the meeting failed.
Meanwhile, PDP leaders in the South East, including the Enugu State governor, Emeka Mbah, had two weeks ago endorsed Ude-Okoye as national secretary of the party, a position zoned to the South East.
Miffed by the PDP governors’ unanimous support for Ude-Okoye in Delta, Anyanwu said “The police should be aware that an appeal has been filed in supreme court against the quoted judgement. Furthermore, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja granted an order on January 13, 2025, clearly directing both parties to maintain status quo ante bellum pending the determination of the substantive application. The order accordingly was duly served on all parties concerned including the National Working Committee of PDP and INEC.”
Anyanwu said it is a settled matter in law that when a Judgement is appealed against to a superior court all parties should maintain status quo ante belum till the matter is finally determined.
He said the governors cannot claim ignorance of this position of law before issuing their statement which runs in conflict with the court decision.
“The police is aware that on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 the same Ude Okoye on ill advise of his cohorts invaded the PDP National Secretariat, the venue of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting with hired thugs and bandits to unleash attacks intended to disrupt the meeting for which he is not a member. That action was completely unlawful and in total disregard to the judiciary and the rule of law.
“It is saddening that the governors in their expected wisdom have allowed themselves to be deceived by the sponsors of Ude Okoye who are already facing criminal investigations by the police against the forged PDP Guidelines which they used to mislead the courts in securing the ill-fated judgements.
“Police is therefore being alerted of the grave dangers that will ensue in the attempt of the NWC to implement the quoted advice of the PDP Governors Forum enshrined in paragraph 3 of their communique.”
