The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of allegedly plotting to discredit the party’s presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna.
The council made the allegation in a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesperson, Dele Alake, who claimed that Atiku and the ADC were orchestrating a disinformation campaign against President Bola Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, and other APC leaders ahead of the rally.
According to the statement, the alleged campaign involved the circulation of misleading reports, doctored documents, artificial intelligence-generated content and deepfake videos intended to portray the APC rally negatively.
The council cited the circulation of a photograph of a security vehicle on routine patrol near an APC campaign billboard in Kaduna as one of the alleged attempts to mislead the public.
It claimed that the photograph was presented in a manner suggesting that security personnel had been deployed to protect APC billboards.
The council further alleged that Atiku shared a report based on the incident on his official social media accounts, amplifying what it described as a misleading narrative.
The APC campaign council also raised concerns over a purported letter allegedly written by Governor Uba Sani to the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, claiming that the Kaduna State Government had released N2.3 trillion to host the rally.
Dismissing the reported expenditure as false, the council questioned the figure’s plausibility, arguing that it exceeded the combined budgets of Kaduna State for 2024, 2025, and 2026.
It put the state’s budgets for the three years at N458.271 billion, N790.439 billion and N985.9 billion, respectively.
The council maintained that the figures contradicted the claim that N2.3 trillion had been spent on hosting the campaign rally.
It further alleged that old, doctored and deepfake videos could be circulated during the rally to create the impression that residents were opposed to the APC campaign.
The council, however, did not provide independent evidence in the statement to substantiate its allegations against Atiku and the ADC.
It urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and scrutinise information circulating on social media and other platforms.
The statement described the alleged activities as attempts to undermine the party’s campaign and damage the reputations of its leaders.
The APC presidential campaign flag-off is scheduled to hold in Kaduna on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
