A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has called on the federal government and security agencies to investigate the alleged assassination attempt on the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
He said the security agencies should also unravel the perpetrators of the evil act as well as their sponsors in order to punish them accordingly.
Eze, in a statement made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday, warned against any untoward act of against Atiku as well as the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The APC chieftain said the attack on the PDP presidential candidate signaled a palpable gloom of apprehension that may have been schemed by some undemocratic forces and class, to capture the entire civil society in a bid to once more usurp democracy and stifle the desire of majority in the pursuit of a selfish, private vendetta.
He expressed concern over the level of insecurity that has continued to permeate the country, describing the situation as heart-wrenching and grossly discomforting not minding billions of naira alleged to have been spent over the security challenges facing this nation.
Eze said: “Insecurity in Nigeria has successfully climaxed to a level where farmers can no longer go to their farms and people can no longer travel safely without the care the fear of attacks thereby rubbishing the federal government declaration of emergency on food security as a mere talk
“The country seems to be retrogressing to the pre-modern age where life was brutish, nasty and short.
“Security must be beefed-up around Atiku as the ‘Waziri Adamawa’ is not an ordinary fellow but a political staunch and notable heavyweight who still has so much to offer the country.”
