The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended the tenure of the Benue State Caretaker Committee for another six months following its expiration in February.

The reappointment letters were presented to committee members on Friday by the committee chairman, Dr Benjamin Omale, at the APC state secretariat in Makurdi.

The letters, signed by the party’s national secretary, Sen. Surajudeen Ajibola, reaffirmed the committee’s mandate to work for the party for another six months.

Reacting to the development, the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr  Omale, expressed appreciation to the APC national leadership for its role in stabilising  Benue APC.

He recalled that following the internal party wrangling in the state, the NWC intervened by involving the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, and Governor Hyacinth Alia, who nominated the seven-man caretaker committee.

Omale criticised the former state chairman, Austin Agada, for allegedly parading himself as the party leader despite the committee’s formation.

He warned Agada against any attempts to impose himself as the APC chairman in the state, saying such actions would attract consequences.

He said, “The APC under Governor Alia has been delivering on its mandate through infrastructural development, regular payment of salaries and pensions, among many others and any attempts by individual or group to destabilise his government would not be condoned.”

The presentation of a certificate of reappointment, which came a week after the committee’s initial six-month tenure expired, was witnessed by several party stakeholders, including all 23 local government party chairmen and the commissioner for power, transport, and renewable energy.
