Leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) North Central Forum have called on the President-elect, Bola Tinubu to pick the director-general of his presidential campaign, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State as the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF).
The chairman of the forum, Saleh Mandung Zazzaga stated this while addressing newsmen shortly after the forum’s meeting in Jos.
He said Governor Lalong, who is also the chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, has done a lot for the APC, the emergence of Tinubu in the presidential election, the Northern region and the nation at large.
Zazzaga said that due to Lalong’s active support for the president-elect, many people in the North central region and his home state of Plateau have been casting aspersions on him and labeling him with all manner of names, but that Lalong stood his ground owing to his strong faith in the ability of the Tinubu/Shettima ticket stressing that they would perform creditably well.
Hence, he said, Lalong deserves the position of the SGF in order to strengthen the Tinubu administration which he so much believed in and worked tirelessly for his victory.
Besides, he said, Lalong has demonstrated that peace and unity, which is the bedrock of development, is achievable as he has been able to restore peace in Plateau State by taking the state out of the dark days of ethno-religious violence.
Zazzaga said the North Central APC Forum has initially canvassed for the emergence of the next president from the North central zone and they routed for Lalong but it didn’t work out, and then later canvassed for him to be selected as the running mate to Tinubu, but it never worked out.
Despite all that, he said, Lalong did not despair or get annoyed, but kept supporting the party to succeed, and also continued doing so until he was appointed as the director-general of the APC presidential campaign council.
