APC Presidential Campaign List: 5 Things Wike’s Inclusion Could Mean For Tinubu

The inclusion of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council means many things for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was named coordinator for Tinubu’s campaign in Rivers State and the FCT.

1. His Rainbow Coalition gets more recognition and integration in APC 

Wike’s appointment could give his Rainbow Coalition, a cross-party platform mobilising support for Tinubu, a more formal role in the president’s re-election campaign.

Wike has said the coalition is focused on supporting Tinubu, not promoting the APC or forcing members to leave their parties.

2. Signalling Cross-Party Support For Tinubu

Wike’s inclusion, alongside figures such as Ademola Adeleke and Chukwuma Soludo, suggests Tinubu’s campaign is seeking support beyond APC members.

However, their participation does not automatically mean their political parties have formally endorsed Tinubu.

Wike’s political connections could help the campaign reach influential stakeholders, community leaders and grassroots networks beyond the APC’s existing structure.

His value may lie in these relationships and mobilisation capacity rather than financial resources alone.

Having served as Rivers State governor for eight years, Wike brings experience in election campaigns, political negotiations and grassroots mobilisation.

His previous cross-party alliances, including his role in the 2024 Edo governorship election, could offer lessons for building support for Tinubu.

Wike’s assignment to coordinate the campaign in Rivers State and the FCT places him at the centre of mobilisation efforts in both areas for Tinubu rejection. These two political bases are key to the 2027 election.
