The Kwara Young Progressive Forum and Good Governance Initiative has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both the national and state levels to reconsider its decision regarding the governorship aspiration of Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, describing him as one of the party’s strongest prospects ahead of the 2027 elections in Kwara State.

The group made the appeal in a statement signed by its Convener, Dr. Adams Abdulwahab Opeyemi, who warned that the APC could risk losing the state to the opposition if it fails to address concerns surrounding the party’s governorship ticket.

According to the statement, Seriki remains a loyal and committed member of the APC whose contributions to the growth and success of the party at both state and national levels should not be overlooked.

The forum argued that the businessman and philanthropist possesses the political structure, grassroots support and public goodwill required to secure victory for the APC in the next governorship election.

It noted that Kwara’s political landscape is becoming increasingly competitive, with opposition parties already mobilising ahead of 2027, making it imperative for the APC to present what it described as its most formidable candidate.

“Ambassador Seriki embodies the aspirations of many young people in Kwara State. He is their voice, their hope and their champion for a new Kwara that works for all,” the statement said.

The group further highlighted Seriki’s role in the “O To Ge” political movement, which contributed significantly to the APC’s rise to power in the state and altered the political dynamics of Kwara.

It also pointed to his record in the private sector, where his business ventures have reportedly created thousands of direct and indirect jobs, as well as his involvement in various empowerment initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable groups and promoting economic development.

According to the forum, Seriki’s philanthropic interventions have positively impacted many communities across the state through skills acquisition programmes, financial support schemes and youth-focused initiatives.

The group maintained that restoring confidence among party members and supporters would require transparent and inclusive decision-making processes capable of strengthening unity within the APC.

It therefore appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the APC National Chairman and other key stakeholders to intervene in the matter and ensure that the concerns raised by party faithful in Kwara are adequately addressed.

The forum expressed confidence that taking steps to resolve the issue would enhance party cohesion and improve the APC’s chances of retaining power in the state during the 2027 general elections.

It added that party leaders should prioritise fairness, consultation and internal democracy in handling issues relating to candidate selection, stressing that unity remains critical to electoral success.

The group reaffirmed its support for the APC and urged members to remain committed to the party while awaiting the intervention of its leadership on the matter.
