The All Progressives Congress (APC), Abia State chapter, has said it will not tolerate contempt or disrespect from the state’s Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC).

The chapter stated this in a statement by Sterling Uruakpa, the assistant secretary and acting publicity secretary, to announce its nonparticipation in the November 2 council poll in the state.

It faulted the commission for not officially notifying it about the election but relied on social media, arguing that it should have used a proper channel for such information.

“The APC is the ruling political party in the country and the biggest political party in Africa and will not tolerate any form of contempt or disrespect from the commission,’ it said

“The commission must follow due process in its activities, ensure inclusiveness and provide a level playing field for all the parties to the confidence and trust of the political parties and the people.”

The commission’s chairman, George Chima, unveiled plans for conducting the poll at a meeting with the political parties and stakeholders about a fortnight ago.

Responding, the parties, except the ruling Labour Party, complained about the process and time frame, but Chima said the commission could do nothing about them.
