Appeal Court Judgment Not Threat To Okocha-led Executives — Rivers APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has declared that the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal on the leadership dispute within the party does not threaten the position of the Chief Tony Okocha-led State Executive Committee.

The party said this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by its Publicity Secretary, Hon. Chibike Ikenga, following growing interpretations of the appellate court’s ruling on the party’s leadership structure in the state.

The Port Harcourt Division of the Court of Appeal had affirmed the judgment of the Rivers State High Court which nullified the congresses that produced the Okocha-led executive, in a decision delivered in Appeal No. CA/PH/523/2024.

The suit followed a December 20, 2024 judgment of the High Court which had earlier voided the APC congresses conducted in the state, holding that the process that produced the current executive was invalid.

However, the APC maintained that despite the appellate court’s pronouncement, the ruling does not automatically affect the continued operation of the current State Executive Committee.

According to the statement, the party’s legal team is already reviewing the judgment to determine the appropriate next steps.

“The leadership of the All Progressives Congress, Rivers State, is aware of the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt dated Friday, 29th May, 2026, in Appeal No: CA/PH/523/2024,” the statement said.

“There is no threat to the status of the EXCO pending full trial. Our lawyers will study the full judgment and advise on the next step,” it added.

The party urged members to remain calm and avoid being misled by what it described as misinterpretation of the court’s decision by individuals unfamiliar with the details of the case.

It further assured supporters that the leadership remains focused and committed to stabilising the party structure in the state while legal processes continue.
