Maureen Apute, the lady captain of TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club in Abuja, has been named the overall winner at the 2025 NOG Energy Week Golf Tournament, held over the weekend at the club’s picturesque golf course.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the tournament kicked off the 2025 NOG Energy Week, setting a relaxed yet impactful tone for this week-long gathering of oil and gas professionals at the scenic TYB International Golf Resort.
Situated in the Federal Capital Territory, TYB’s lush fairways welcomed golf enthusiasts, business leaders, and energy sector stakeholders from across Nigeria. This event combined sporting competition with valuable networking opportunities, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and rivalry.
At the conclusion of the thrilling tournament, Apute triumphed as the overall best net winner, playing off a handicap of 18 and finishing with a gross score of 82 and a net score of 64.
In the men’s category, Isaiah Okonofua also of TYB Golf Club claimed the best gross title with an impressive score of 73. Kareem Mumuni secured first place in the net competition, defeating Aletor Adoghe on countback after returning a gross score of 90 and a net score of 65. Adoghe, playing off a handicap of 10, finished as the net runner-up in the men’s category with a gross score of 75 and a net score of 65. In a closely contested finish, George Ibinabo captured the second runner-up spot, beating Ejike Njeze on countback with a gross score of 76 and a net score of 67.
In the ladies’ category, Maryam Julde-Adura emerged as best net winner, playing off a handicap of 28 to return a gross score of 96 and a net score of 68, edging out Judith Igwugwu on countback. Igwugwu, playing off a handicap of 33, finished with a gross score of 101 and a net score of 68 as the runner-up.
Faith Ogenyi also contended well, finishing as the second runner-up with a gross score of 105 and a net score of 72, both playing off a handicap of 33.
In the veteran category, Emmanuel Eluoha clinched the best net prize, playing off a handicap of 14 and returning a gross score of 88 with a net score of 74. Mohammed Sanusi claimed the runner-up position after overcoming Tony Prest on countback, having played off a handicap of 16 to return a gross score of 101 and a net score of 85.
Special awards were also given out, with Philip Kuma winning the men’s longest drive at a distance of 283 metres. Maureen Apute added to her accolades by securing the ladies’ longest drive prize with a distance of 222 metres. In the Nearest the Pin Men’s category, TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club Vice Captain Ali Peters struck the target at just 5 feet. Apute rounded off her successful day by winning the ladies’ nearest the pin prize with a distance of 12 feet.
