In response to the recent violent clashes between farmers and herders in the Gurfata community, the chairman of the Gwagwalada Area Council, Abubakar Jibrin Giri, has convened an emergency security meeting with traditional rulers, the FCT director of Security, security agencies and representatives of Miyetti Allah.

The meeting held yesterday evening at the Teachers’ House in Gwagwalada, brought together critical stakeholders to address the root causes of the conflict and chart a path toward sustainable peace.

In a statement signed by the chief press secretary to the chairman, Ibrahim Yamawo, the council boss emphasised the need for dialogue and mutual understanding between farmers and herders:

“We cannot afford to let these clashes disrupt the peace of our communities. This meeting calls for all parties to embrace tolerance and work collaboratively toward conflict resolution,” Giri stated.

Discussions at the meeting centred on strategies to prevent future conflicts, enhance dialogue, and strengthen community relationships.

The chairman urged all parties to prioritise peaceful resolution, tolerance, and understanding, stressing the importance of collaboration in maintaining peace and stability.

The chairman directed security agencies to maintain a sustained presence in the Gurfata community through continuous patrolling to ensure lasting peace and normalcy and provide a safe environment for residents.

The FCT Director of Security, Adamu Gwary, emphasised the importance of collaboration and intelligence-sharing among security agencies.

He instructed all agencies to submit detailed situation reports to the Council Chairman, who will forward them to the Minister’s office for further investigation and action.

“This directive ensures comprehensive documentation and analysis of the clashes to identify root causes and implement effective solutions,” Gwary said.

The meeting is expected to yield concrete actions and recommendations to address the challenges the Gurfata community faces and foster long-term peace and cooperation.
