The convener of the Arewa Think Tank, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, has said the reappointment of Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi as Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for another five-year term would reposition the corps to meet evolving security challenges and contribute meaningfully to national stability.
President Tinubu had recently renewed Dr. Audi’s tenure, which took effect on Friday, February 27, following the expiration of his initial term.
In a statement issued by the convener Arewa Think Tank by Yakubu and made available to journalists, the group described Audi’s reappointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as “a strategic and well-deserved decision” that would consolidate ongoing reforms within the Corps.
“The renewal of Dr Audi’s tenure demonstrates President Tinubu’s confidence in experienced leadership and institutional continuity.
“At a time when our internal security architecture requires stability and strategic coordination, this decision is both timely and commendable,” Yakubu said.
Yakubu noted that under Dr. Audi’s leadership, the NSCDC had strengthened its operational capacity in critical national asset protection, intelligence gathering and community-based security interventions.
“The President’s directive for enhanced synergy among security agencies is crucial. We believe Dr. Audi has the experience, training and institutional knowledge to drive this mandate effectively.
“We urge all stakeholders to support the Commandant-General in delivering on the President’s vision for a safer and more secure Nigeria,” Yakubu stated.
