A former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has condemned what he described as sustained attacks by armed Fulani groups against Hausa communities in the North-West, declaring that the violence must stop.

Ahmad made the remarks in a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Friday, where he decried the spate of killings, banditry and intimidation carried out in parts of northern Nigeria.

“The acts of violence, banditry and intimidation being carried out by armed Fulani terrorists against our people and communities are unacceptable,” he wrote.

LEADERSHIP reports that Ahmed hails from Kano State.

The former presidential aide, who served as a social media assistant during Buhari’s administration, did not specify particular incidents but described the attacks as targeted and intolerable.

However, his comments have sparked reactions in the comment section, with several Facebook users weighing in on the security situation and the role of government and local communities.

One commenter, Ibrahim Buhari Galadinchi, urged Ahmad to broaden the blame beyond the armed groups to the victims.

“Please include the Hausa people who feed them with information, supply them with food, medicine and other things. They are not doing it alone but with the community they live in,” Galadinchi wrote, suggesting that some locals may be complicit in aiding the attackers.

Another user, Abba Habib Abubakar, challenged Ahmed to speak to the authorities as a member of the ruling APC in order to take decisive action, stressing that security is the government’s constitutional responsibility.

“Call your government to attack the menace, because it is the primary responsibility of it,” he stated.

In a more pointed reaction, Ikwu Danny appeared to reference past assurances by Ahmed’s former principal, late former President Buhari, on tackling insecurity.

“Buhari has been ‘bringing them to book.’ Is it that they have come out of the book?” he wrote.
