Army Ready To Bust Terrorists’ Strategy Of Abduction For Ransom, IED Attacks — COAS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, has assured that the Nigerian Army is ready to combat terrorists’ new strategy of abduction for ramsom, pillaging for logistics and attacking civilians with improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The Army Chief who gave the assurance on Friday during his operational tour of joint tasks force North-East Operation Hadin Kai, equally commissioned blocks of 30 flats of two bedroom corporal below rank quarters for soldiers of Operation Hadin Kai in Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri, Borno State.

The COAS said he is in Maiduguri on an operational tour to assess the security situation and reinvigorate ongoing Counter terrorism counter insurgency operations being conducted by troops of Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai in the North East Theatre of Operations.

He said he was briefed by the Theatre Commander, Maj. Gen Golden Chibuisi on the current security situation of the North East, ongoing operational activities to clear terrorists from their enclaves in the Lake Chad region and the Mandara mountains as well as the challenges of the outfit.

He lauded the troops for the operational successes so far achieved and observed that “new trends have been noticed in the activities of the terrorists. They are now reverting to abduction for ransom, pillaging for logistics and attacking civilians with Improvised Explosive Device (IED).”
