Army Ready To Combat Terrorists’ Strategy Of Abductions, Attacks

Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja has assured that the Nigerian Army is ready to combat terrorists’ strategy of abduction for ransom, pillaging for logistics and attacking civilians with improvised explosive devices.

Lagbaja who spoke during a tour of the joint taskforce in the North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, commissioned 30 flats of two bedrooms for soldiers of Operation Hadin Kai at  the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri.

The COAS said he was in Maiduguri to assess the security situation and reinvigorate the ongoing counter terrorism and counter insurgency operations.

He said he had been briefed by the Theatre Commander, Maj. Gen. Golden Chibuisi, on the current security situation in the North East and ongoing operational  activities to clear terrorists from their enclaves in the Lake Chad region and the Mandara mountains as well as the challenges of the outfit.

He lauded the troops for the operational successes so far achieved and observed that new trends had been noticed in the activities of the terrorists.

“They are now reverting to abduction for ransom, pillaging for logistics and attacking civilians with Improvised Explosive Devices,” he said.

He assured that combat enablers would be provided to support ongoing operations to further ensure more pronounced stability in the region.
