The director-general of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has received commendations for his prompt intervention regarding the ongoing issues within the Nigerian wrestling community, which culminated in a protest at the Government House in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Monday.

The recognition comes from the Bring Back Amas Movement (BBAM), which organised a rally in response to the suspension of Olympian Amas Daniel by the Nigeria Wrestling Federation.

During an official visit to the state, aimed at discussing the Bayelsa State government’s potential bid to host the 2028 National Sports Festival, Olopade exhibited exemplary leadership and a paternal approach in resolving the dispute, much to the satisfaction of all involved parties.

Comrade Sikpi Linus, the lead convener of the Bring Back Amas Movement, praised Olopade’s timely and reassuring intervention, highlighting his suitability for his current role in Nigerian sports.

“Special thanks also go to the astute and diligent Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Mr. Bukola Olopade, who adeptly applied his expertise to address this pressing issue during his visit to Bayelsa State for official duties. We are grateful for his display of leadership,” Linus stated.
